Families that don't spend time together quickly lose touch. Study after study has shown that keeping the lines of communication open with your children is one of the strongest weapons you have to keep them out of gangs, off drugs and out of trouble. Consider arranging a getaway on a regular basis that includes outdoor recreation for the whole family. Make some rules for the trip that includes banning all tech items, including cell phones, laptops or video games.

At least once a month, more often if you can get everyone's schedule aligned, plan on taking an outing that will include every member of the family. Even the family dog can tag along! Make some hard fast rules for taking a family trip together. Ensure that video games, portable DVD players, CD players, iPods, laptops and other electronic equipment are left at home.

Books, magazines and reading material is fine for the drive. Ditch everyone's cell phones at home except for your own and your spouse's. That way, in case of an emergency, you'll still be able to communicate. Make a solemn promise to yourself, no business calls and no text messages while you're on family time. Try to include outdoor recreation fun that everyone can enjoy such as boating, skiing, hunting and fishing.

Hunting and fishing are outdoor recreation sports that many families enjoy participating in together. It's a great way to have a good banter going all day with your kids while you wait for the big one to bite your hook as you sit in the boat or wait in a deer blind for a buck with a wall-worthy rack to come along. Deer hunting is also a way to teach kids about the importance of safety for themselves as well as others when handling firearms. Above all, it's a wonderful way to spend quality time with your kids.

If you want to learn an ancient way to hunt, consider taking up archery as a pastime and then translate that skill into your passion for hunting. It's a great way to develop skill and through practice, your aim can become extremely accurate. Once your archery skills have developed you can use those skills to hunt deer. Bow hunting is a wonderful outdoor recreation activity. Although it is not allowed on all lands, the majority of public hunting properties do allow bow hunting in specific areas.

Today's Tip On Hunting

Masking sprays work well in most areas. However, the deer can "learn" to recognize the scent of the sprays and associate the smell with humans. So have a couple of different sprays on hand and you should be able to hide yourself, at least scent-wise, from the whitetail deer herd.
